REPRESENTING THE THIRD DISTRICT
Congressman Jim Saxton has the honor of representing the Third Congressional District of New Jersey.
Stretching from historic river towns on the banks of the Delaware eastward to the shoreline of Long Beach Island, the Third District encompasses most of Burlington County, half of Ocean County and several Camden County communities.
The Third District is an area of New Jersey known for its small towns, suburban communities, natural beauty and inviting beaches. The area also has a high proportion of homeowners as well as senior citizens.
The Third District has been well-served by Congressman Saxton's legislative achievements.
Representing the Third District's large senior citizen population, Jim Saxton has fought hard to protect important programs like Social Security and modernize Medicare with a new prescription drug benefit.
The Third District is also well known for its beach towns, and Congressman Saxton fought successfully to stop ocean dumping and to preserve local beaches from erosion. Representing a district with sprawling pinelands in eastern Burlington County, vast farmlands, and 35 miles of coastline, Congressman Saxton continues to work hard to protect the environment, promote open space preservation, and strengthen clean air and water safeguards.
In addition, the Third District is home to two major military installations - Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base. As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Saxton has used his influence to defend both bases through three rounds of national base closures. Every year, he has been a strong, successful advocate and the bases continue to benefit the local economy while playing a vital role in America's national defense.
At home in the Third District, Congressman Saxton resides in Burlington County and is fond of spending weekends sailing off the coast of Long Beach Island.
